ABSTRACTThis study examines a spatial pattern of annual, seasonal and monthly rainfall trends in Montenegro. Montenegro has been poorly studied in terms of rainfall trends. So far, several studies assessed only precipitation extremes in Montenegro over last several decades. In this study we use observational data from 23 stations between 1951 and 2010. The rainfall series were examined by applying the nonparametric method of the Mann–Kendall test and Sen’s method to determine the significance and magnitude of the trends. Particular attention was given to seasonal shifts in the Montenegro hydroclimate. Therefore the changes in the onset and termination of the rainy season were examined too. In the last section of the study global and local spatial autocorrelation indices were calculated in order to examine spatial pattern of rainfall trends on annual, seasonal and monthly timescales in Montenegro in the period 1951–2010.
