ABSTRACT | A numerical ocean model of the Turkish Straits System (TSS) has been
implemented based on the HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM).
Model results and satellite Sea Surface Temperature (SST) were used to
understand the connection between the Dardanelles Strait outflow and wind
stress during the model integration. To extent the time period beyond the
model integration time, a proxy variable representing the amount of the
Dardanelles Strait outflow was constructed based on above connection. The
inter-annual variability of the water transport between 1978-2013 is investi-
gated by using this proxy variable. It is shown that the variability in the
Black Sea Water (BSW) outflow is highly correlated with the fish catches in
the Aegean Sea. |
